A Sallisaw man is facing a felony charge for the alleged molestation of a 12-year-old girl.

A felony lewd molestation charge was filed Tuesday in Sequoyah County District Court in Sallisaw against Dennis Osburn, 40. According to court records, a warrant was issued for his arrest in October, but he has yet to be apprehended.

According to court records, Sequoyah County Sheriff's Deputy Shane McHale was dispatched at about 3 a.m. Aug. 20 to investigate a 12-year-old girl's allegations of sexual assault.

During McHale's interview with the girl, she told him that during the night on Aug. 20 she was asleep in her room when she was awakened by someone touching her inappropriately. When she woke up, she said Osburn was backing up, and as he was leaving the room, he knocked over some furniture.

The girl went to her mother's room and her mother took her to a friend's house and called the sheriff's department.

Several days later, the victim and the victim's mother came to the sheriff's office and the girl was interviewed. The girl told police that Osburn made sexual comments in her presence in the past. She also recalled another incident in which she, her 15-year-old sister, and a friend saw Osburn masturbating with the bathroom door open about a foot.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
