Football Round-Up: Broken Bow edges Diamonds, 42-35

BROKEN BOW - No. 10-ranked Broken Bow outscored fourth-ranked Sallisaw 42-35 in a wild game Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

Savage tailback Gregory King ran for what turned out to be the winning touchdown with 10:46 to go in the fourth quarter. That put Broken Bow up 42-28, but Kyle Stewart got the Black Diamonds back in the game.

Stewart picked off a Jody Shomo pass and returned it to the Broken Bow 16. He capped the short scoring drive with a touchdown run and Carlos Nieto's point-after kick pulled Sallisaw to within 42-35 at the 6:14 mark.

The Diamond defense got a critical stop late in the game, holding the Savages on fourth down deep in Sallisaw territory with less than a minute remaining. However, Broken Bow's Albert Rivera picked off a pass to clinch the win for the home team.

Sallisaw dropped to 3-1 overall and 0-1 in District 4A-4, while Broken Bow moved to 2-2 and 1-0.

Roland 28, Bristow 0

BRISTOW - The Rangers opened up play in District 3A-4 with a road win at Hafer Field as the defense claimed its second shutout of the season.

Ben Fowlkes and Colton Daniel got the offense going as both scored a pair of touchdowns.

Fowlkes scored on runs of two and 80 yards to hand Roland a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.

Daniel made it 21-0 at halftime, catching a 16-yard TD pass from Chase Quickel with 13 seconds left. The two connected again in the fourth quarter for an eight-yard touchdown pass as Roland improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the district.

Bristow slipped to 1-3 and 0-1.

Morrison 68, Gans 20

GANS - Class B No. 1-ranked Morrison lived up to its billing on Friday night while handing the Grizzlies their first loss of the season.

Ricky Holba scored four first-half touchdowns for the visitors as they took a 46-14 lead by the break and then won by the mercy rule in the second half.

Gans tried to keep pace early on, capping long drives with touchdown runs by Kyle John and Nick Woodruff before the Wildcats began to pull away.

Gans fell to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in District B-3. Morrison is 4-0 and 3-0.

Central 27, Keota 0

KEOTA - The Tigers collected a District A-8 win on the road Friday night while shutting out Keota.

Central improves to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the league, while dropping Keota to 0-4 and 0-3.

Vian 49, Stigler 0

STIGLER - Class 2A fourth-ranked Vian got its third shutout in four games while staying unbeaten on Friday night.

The Wolverines ran their record to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in District 2A-6. Stigler is now 0-4 and 0-1.

Gore 20, Pocola 19

GORE - The Pirates got a huge win in District A-8 on Friday night at K.G. Horn Stadium to climb back into the title race.

Gore evened its record at 2-2 overall and the Pirates are now 2-1 in the league.

T.J. Baker scored on touchdown runs of 12 and 23 yards and Robby Summerlin tossed a 19-yard TD pass to Jake White as the Pirates dropped Pocola to 2-2 and 1-1. Jeremy McElhaney's extra point kick with 1:45 remaining broke a 19-19 tie following Baker's second TD run of the night.

Cave Springs at Watts

WATTS - Due to lightning, the game was called at halftime with Watts leading 32-30. It is scheduled to resume at 7 p.m. Saturday.
