Linda Ross, 38, was charged Monday with the felony, which carries up to five years in prison and up to a $1,000 fine if convicted.
According to court records, Ross was working as the manager of Dixie Finance in Roland when the alleged theft occurred in March. Roland police reported that Ross' supervisor, Susan Perry, who was the district manager, noticed a deposit had not cleared the bank so she came to talk to Ross about it. Perry reported that Ross had allegedly embezzled money, but when confronted, Ross paid it back quickly. Perry also reported when she asked Ross about the deposit, Ross gave her the money bag and told her she had taken the money. The loss amounted to $5,093. Ross was also accused of opening loans in former customer's names, forging checks, and stealing checks from a co-worker's desk.
Perry gave police a letter that Ross allegedly gave her, confessing and telling how apologetic she was.
Police called Ross for an interview and on Aug. 15, she came to the Roland Police Department for an interview. According to court records, Ross allegedly admitted to writing the letter to Perry, which indicated that Ross embezzled money and agreed to pay it back but failed to do so. Ross allegedly told police that she let the company keep her last payroll check and had also repaid $100 in an attempt to repay the money.
