A 17-year-old from Sallisaw was charged Thursday with a felony relating to an alleged assault in October.

According to court records, James C. Isaac faces one count of aggravated assault and battery. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison or up to a year in the county jail or up to a $500 fine.

Sallisaw Police Sgt. Ronnie Davis was called to Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw at 9:30 p.m. Oct. 8 on a report of an assault that happened at about 6:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of West Creek. When Davis arrived, he reportedly spoke to the alleged victim, who told Davis he walked out into the street to speak to a boy, later identified as Isaac, about problems between Isaac and his son.

The alleged victim told Davis that while talking with Isaac he noticed that the boy kept his hands in his pocket and did not take them out. An argument began and when the alleged victim turned to walk away, Isaac struck him in the side of the head. As the alleged victim fell to the ground, Isaac allegedly hit the man repeatedly in the face and upper chest, as well as the back of the head. The doctor who treated the alleged victim said it looked as if the man was hit with a hard object, like a bat or brass knuckles, Davis reported.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
