Concerned citizens and alumni of the Marble City School District will hold a meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to discuss the problems at the school. Anyone interested is encouraged to attend. For more information contact Ellen McClendon at 775-2158 or Ramon Bolin at 775-5071.

The Gore High School Future Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is celebrating the Oklahoma Centennial by selling engraved bricks for $25 each. The bricks will be used to build the Gore Schools Centennial Brick Plaza on the high school campus near the flagpole and marquee. All proceeds will go to the project. FCCLA members are managing the project but are not making money from it. The deadline to submit an order is Thursday and orders should be brought to the high school office.

Friday, Nov. 16


A pizza party will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Marble City Community Building. At the party residents may sign up for the Christmas party, which will be held at the community building next month.

Members of the Marble City Community Organization are taking orders for pies, and the order deadline is Friday. The pies are $10 each and will be delivered between 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at the First Assembly of God Church in Sallisaw. Available pies include coconut, chocolate, butterscotch and lemon cream pies, pumpkin and raisin pies, and pumpkin rolls. To place an order call 775-3658.

Oklahoma's 100th birthday will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday by members of the 14 Flags Heritage Club and the Sequoyah County Historical Society at the 14 Flags Museum Complex in Sallisaw. The celebration will include a dedication of the 14 Flags flag plaza, the opening of a 25-year time capsule, a re-enactment of the wedding of the two territories, a brief history of Statehood Day in Sequoyah County, musical entertainment, and a free reception with foods served that were typical of the time.

The City of Sallisaw will celebrate Oklahoma's birthday from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at city hall where birthday cake and punch will be served. The public is invited to stop by and visit.

Saturday, Nov. 17


Members of Cookson United Methodist Church will hold their annual Thanksgiving dinner, bazaar and bake sale Saturday. The bazaar and bake sale will be held from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., and dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. The menu includes the traditional Thanksgiving fare and will be $5 for adults and $2.50 for children age 10 and under.

An open house will be held at the Citizen's State Bank in Marble City from 2 until 4 p.m. Saturday. The open house is being held to celebrate the progress of restoring the building and will be hosted by the Marble City Historical Society. Society members will recognize guests and the Wall of Thanks. The group Vitality will present special music and refreshments will be served. For more information contact Judy Bolin at 775-5071.

The Crabb family revival singing will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday at Victory Temple, on U.S. Highway 64 west of Roland.

The fourth annual Christmas Tree give-away and Holiday Wreath Sale, to benefit the Children's Safehaven Advocacy Center and Help-In-Crisis, is underway. The gold and silver angel Christmas tree is on display at the Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce and the holiday wreaths will be on display and for sale from 1 until 5 p.m. Sunday at the Children's Safehaven Advocacy Center and Help-In-Crisis, at the corner of Elm and Chickasaw in Sallisaw. The tree will be given away at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, and donations will be taken for the give-away at both the chamber of Help-In-Crisis offices. The Sequoyah County Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at the society's museum at 200 E. Creek in Sallisaw. Tim Mulvihill, archeologist, will be the guest speaker. Everyone is invited to attend.

Roland Schools will be dismissed during the week of Nov. 19 through 23 for the Thanksgiving break.

Tuesday, Nov. 20


The Vian Ministerial Alliance will hold the Thanksgiving Community Praise and Worship Service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Vian Baptist Church on U.S. Highway 64 west in Vian.

Friday, Nov. 23


Members of the Marble City Historical Society will hold breakfasts from 6:30 to 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, and Saturday, Nov. 24, to raise money to refurbish the old bank building. All-you-can-eat biscuits and gravy will be $4 and breakfast burritos will be $2 each. Orange juice and coffee will also be served.

The Muldrow Cherokee Community Organization (MCCO) will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, for the Muldrow Community Center, which will be located on five lots just north of Muldrow on State Highway 64B, about a half mile north of the railroad tracks in downtown Muldrow, across the street from the Muldrow Little League ball field. Cherokee Chief Chad Smith and other Cherokee Nation officials are expected to attend, MCCO members said.

Sallisaw Public Schools Title VII Indian Education Parent Committee will meet at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, in the school board conference room at the school administration building. The parents of Title VII students are invited to attend.

Sunday, Dec. 2


The Vian Baptist Church Youth Group is initiating a supply drive for military troops serving overseas. The church youths have begun writing letters to soldiers and plan to continue to do so with the holidays approaching. A donation box is inside the church to collect supplies, such as ChapStick, Visine, socks, hand warmers and any other items the community wishes to contribute. These will be sent out the first part of December to arrive before Christmas. The church is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily to accept gifts.

The 10th annual Green Country Opry Christmas Music Show will begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Tommie Spear Middle School auditorium in Sallisaw. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Money raised at the show is used by the Child Welfare Advisory Board for the benefit of the foster children in Sequoyah County.
