The Sequoyah County Basketball Tournament is less than three weeks away and all the teams now know who they'll be facing in the first round.

Brackets were prepared last week at the pre-tournament coaches meeting with Roland grabbing the top seed in both the boys and the girls division.

Muldrow will serve as the main site for the seventh-annual tournament, which runs from Jan. 2 through Jan. 7. Gans will host games as the sub-site on the first three nights of the event.

The Rangers earned the No. 1 seed in the boys bracket by getting off to a 5-0 start to the season before Tuesday night's game at Stilwell. Roland is the three-time defending county champion and will try to become the first boys team to win four titles. The Rangers will play Webbers Falls in a first-round game on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Gans.

The winner of that game will play the Sallisaw/Central winner in the semifinals.

Muldrow, which has won the other three championships in the six years of the event, is on the opposite side of the boys bracket. The Bulldogs open on their home floor against Gore on Jan. 2. The winner of that game will be matched up with the Vian/Gans winner in the semifinals.

Roland's girls won their first five games of the season to earn the top seed in their bracket and they'll face Gans in the first round on Jan. 3 at Gans. The winner of that game will face either Central or Gore in the second round.

Defending champion Muldrow will be going for its fifth title and the Lady Bulldogs will begin their quest against Webbers Falls on Jan. 2 at Muldrow. Sallisaw and Vian will meet in the other first-round girls game.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
