Funeral services for Toni R. Allen, 60, of Poteau are being held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau.

The Rev. Greg Tener is officiating. Burial is in Oakland Cemetery in Poteau under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.

Mrs. Allen was born March 17, 1946, in Heavener to Floyd L. Carter Sr. and Islahrea (Dunn) Carter. She died Monday Oct. 16, 2006, in Fort Smith, Ark.

Mrs. Allen was a registered nurse. She worked at Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center in Poteau for 20 years and for the LeFlore County Health Department for 18 years. She was active in raising money for St. Jude's, training for daycare centers, and was the maternity care coordinator for the health department. She had over 20 years of labor and delivery experience. She was a national certified child health nurse and enjoyed helping others. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include one daughter, Diane Thompson of Poteau; one son, Robert D. Allen of Poteau; one sister, Abbie Bailey of Sallisaw; one brother, Floyd L. Carter Jr. of Eufaula; four grandchildren, Jenny Allen, Jessica Fair, Ross Allen, and Reed Allen; one great-grandson, Jon Carter Allen; and numerous relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Pallbearers are Will Thompson, Bill Willis, Robert D. Allen, Lawson Carter, Carlton Bailey, and Ross Allen.
