Two teams will put their winning streaks on the line Thursday night when Gans hosts Oaks in a District B-3 football game.

Kickoff at Grizzly Field is slated for 7:30 p.m.

Gans enters the contest on a three-game roll after last week's 62-34 win over Cave Springs. The Grizzlies are 6-1 overall and they're tied with Oaks for second place in the district with a 4-1 league record.

Oaks is 5-2 overall and the Warriors have been gaining momentum after dropping their opening two games of the season against South Coffeyville and Welch.

Since then, Oaks has rolled to victories over Cave Springs (48-22), Webbers Falls (52-6), Watts (58-12), Prue (38-12) and Porter (52-48).

Last week's win over Porter was led by the pass-catch duo of Jerrid Foreman and Leon Mouse.

Foreman, a senior quarterback, threw four touchdown passes to Mouse, who scored on receptions covering 85, 69, 8 and 44 yards. Mouse also had a 47-yard touchdown run and Foreman ran for another TD as the Warriors came from behind to beat Porter.

This week's game is set for Thursday because of the state teachers' meetings and Gans is already in the short-week routine after playing Cave Springs this past Thursday.

In that game, noseguard Gary Southern blocked two punts in the opening minutes to spark the rout. He recovered one in the end zone for a touchdown and the other resulted in a safety.

After that, Nick Gard scored on runs of 11, 21 and 2 yards and quarterback Nick Woodruff scrambled 26 yards for another touchdown as the Grizzlies took a 38-14 halftime lead.

Kyle John added two TD runs after the break and back-up quarterback Joe Brunk scored on a 7-yard run to seal the win for Gans.

John, Gard and Woodruff key a powerful ground game for Gans, which is averaging 44.9 points per game.

John leads the way with 722 yards and nine touchdowns on 74 carries, while Gard has picked up 639 yards and nine scores on 95 tries. Woodruff has accounted for 516 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns on 71 attempts.

Woodruff has also passed for 476 yards and six touchdowns while completing 31 of his 68 throws.

Senior Kameron Pastore is the leading receiver for Gans with 12 catches for 161 yards and four touchdowns. John has another 110 yards and two TDs on seven receptions.

These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher.
