Six school board races, chief election set Feb. 12

February will be a busy month for voters, according to Sequoyah County Election Board officials. Seven elections, including six school board elections, are on tap for the Feb. 12 annual school board and City of Sallisaw elections, according to the election board.

Candidates had until 5 p.m. Wednesday to file for candidacy.

In Sallisaw, current Sallisaw Police Chief Shaloa Edwards will face retired Sallisaw officer David W. Bethany at the polls.

Braggs School has the most opponents of the six schools where races are planned. In Braggs, Sohuana S. Wheat, Elsa Irving, Zach Munzenrider, Billie Easterling, and Tracy Ann Hunt will face each other.

At Marble City School, Felicia Edwards of Marble City and Mary Cooksey, incumbent, of Marble City are the candidates for Office 3.

In Gans, Kelly Youngblood of Gans, and Terry Brant, incumbent, of Muldrow are vying for Office 3 on the Gans School Board.

At Gore School, Matt Cash and incumbent Richard Smith, both of Gore, are seeking Office 3 on the board.

In Sallisaw, voters will decide whether Ricky Taylor of Sallisaw or Tim G. Blount of Sallisaw will be the newest school board member.

In Vian, Larry Vickers Jr., incumbent, Paul Parrott, and Jessie Marie Young, all of Vian, are seeking post 3 on the Vian School Board.

No candidates filed for the seat on the vo-tech board.

Sallisaw Mayor Shannon Vann was the only candidate to file for the mayor position in Sallisaw and will automatically take office.

Others who ran unopposed and will automatically take office include:

- Belfonte School: Office 3, Roy Lee Soap, incumbent, of Muldrow

- Brushy School: Office 3, Jeffery A. Price of Sallisaw

- Central School: Office 3, Joe Randolph, incumbent, of Sallisaw

- Liberty School: Office 3, Terry M. Nichols, incumbent, of Muldrow

- Moffett School: Office 3, Paul Hodgens, incumbent, of Moffett

- Muldrow School: Office 3, Darin Huggins, incumbent, of Muldrow

- Roland School: Office 3, Charles A. Howard, incumbent, of Roland
