Football Round-Up: Central makes playoffs despite loss

Josh Riley returned an interception for a touchdown in the first quarter as Talihina edged Central 7-0 on Friday night at Tiger Field.

The setback dropped Central to 7-3 overall and 5-3 in District A-8. However, the Tigers scraped into the playoffs as the No. 4 seed thanks to Panama's 34-20 win over Pocola on Friday.

Panama is the district champion with Talihina (8-2, 6-2) getting second place. Gore finished third, Central fourth and Pocola fifth.

Roland 25, Checotah 7

CHECOTAH - The Rangers scored in every quarter on Friday night while closing their season on a winning note at Ogle Field.

Spencer Owens got Roland going with a two-yard touchdown run and Ben Fowlkes added TD runs of four, 82 and 29 yards as the Rangers pulled away for the win.

Roland finished with a record of 5-5 overall and 3-4 in District 3A-4.

Vian 48, Heavener 7

VIAN - The Wolverines put the finishing touches on an undefeated regular season on Friday night, cruising past Heavener.

Fourth-ranked Vian ran its record to 10-0 overall and 7-0 in District 2A-6. The Wolverines will host Morris on Friday night in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.

Gans 55, Prue 8

GANS - The Grizzlies picked up their sixth win in a row on Friday night, dominating Prue in a District B-3 clash.

Gans is now 9-1 overall and the Grizzlies finished second in the league with a 7-1 record. Gans will host a first-round playoff game on Friday.

Sallisaw 34, Okmulgee 20

OKMULGEE - The Black Diamonds clinched a winning season on Friday night, building a big lead and hanging on to defeat Okmulgee.

Sallisaw went up 34-7 before the Bulldogs scored a pair of second-half touchdowns to pull within 14. Okmulgee recovered an onside kick and got down to the Sallisaw 26 before Randy Tonche broke up a fourth-down pass to seal the win for the Diamonds.

Sallisaw closes its season with a record of 6-4 overall and 3-4 in District 4A-4.

Seminole 20, Muldrow 7 SEMINOLE - The Bulldogs suffered a loss in their regular-season finale, but still advanced to the Class 3A playoffs for the first time since 2001.

Muldrow dropped to 4-6 overall and 3-4 in District 3A-4. That was good enough for fourth place, thanks to Victory Christian's win over Bristow on Friday night.

The Bulldogs will play at No. 1-ranked Claremore-Sequoyah on Friday night in the first round of the playoffs.

Maud 43, Webbers Falls 8

MAUD - Maud clinched its first trip to the playoffs since 1993 as quarterback Steffan Jasna threw for 100 yards and three touchdowns.

Maud moved to 6-4 overall and 6-2 in District C-4 while handing the Warriors their seventh-straight defeat. Webbers Falls closed its season at 2-8 and 2-6.
