Seven nabbed in drug raids

Area law enforcement agencies remained busy during the week proceeding the Christmas holiday, serving three search warrants for drugs in Sequoyah County.

Sequoyah County Sheriff's deputies and District 27 Drug Task Force agents teamed up Monday afternoon to serve a search warrant at a motel room in Sallisaw.

During the search, sheriff's deputies at the scene reported finding large bundles of substances appearing to be marijuana. Sheriff's deputies also reported finding substances appearing to methamphetamine, along with items of paraphernalia commonly associated with the distribution and use of controlled dangerous substances.

Dana Renee Murray, 28, of Stigler and Jeremy Clark, 32, of Keota were arrested.

Murray was booked into the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a police scanner in commission of a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bond was set at $20,500. Jail records indicate that Murray is also being held on an outstanding felony warrant and a failure to appear in court warrant out of Haskell County.

Clark was booked into the county jail on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a police scanner in commission of a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a $20,500.

Sheriff's deputies, task force agents, Cherokee Nation Marshal Service investigators, and Vian Police officers teamed up Tuesday morning to serve a search warrant for drugs at a Vian home.

During the search, sheriff's deputies reported finding substances appearing to be methamphetamine and substances appearing to be marijuana, along with items of paraphernalia commonly associated with the use and distribution of controlled dangerous substances. Deputies also reported that there was a juvenile child in the home at the time the search warrant was served.

Jerome Olive of Vian was arrested as a result of the investigation. Olive, 44, was booked into the county jail on charges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor child, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Jail records indicate that Olive has previous felony convictions and that he is currently being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond.

Sheriff's deputies working the investigation reported that, pending further investigation, additional arrests are expected in the case.

Task force agents and deputies teamed up a third time on Wednesday to serve a search warrant for drugs at a home north of Sallisaw.

Agents reported finding chemicals and equipment commonly associated with the manufacture of methamphetamine, substances appearing to be methamphetamine and substances appearing to be marijuana, along with items of paraphernalia commonly associated with the distribution and use of controlled dangerous substances. Numerous pills, some of which were found to be scheduled drugs, were also found during the search process. In addition, agents reported finding a loaded firearm during the search of the home.

Dewona Maxwell and Roger Young, both of Sallisaw, were arrested during the search.

Maxwell, 48, was booked into the county jail on charges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute (four counts), possession of a controlled drug without a valid prescription, endeavoring to manufacture a controlled dangerous substance, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in commission of a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Maxwell is currently being held without bond.

Young, 42, was booked into the county jail on charges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute (four counts), possession of a controlled drug without a valid prescription, endeavoring to manufacture a controlled dangerous substance, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in commission of a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Young is currently being held without bond.

Agents also reported that, while serving the search warrant, additional individuals arrived at the residence, one of whom was identified as Donald Lee Sumpter, who was found to have an outstanding felony warrant. Darrell Semore of Sallisaw was also found to be in possession of substances appearing to be methamphetamine and substances appearing to be marijuana, along with items of paraphernalia commonly associated with the distribution and use of controlled dangerous substances. Agents reported that Semore also possessed a gun.

Sumpter, 45, was booked into the county jail on an outstanding felony warrant for failure to appear and pay fines. He was released after paying the fines.

Semore, 47, was booked into the county jail on charges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Semore was released on a $28,000 bond.
