A Sallisaw man is facing assault and kidnapping charges relating to a Dec. 13 domestic dispute.

Patrick Obrien Butler, 25, of Sallisaw was charged Dec. 14 with domestic assault and battery by strangulation, kidnapping, larceny of an automobile, and domestic assault and battery in the presence of a minor.

On Sept. 29, at about 10:03 a.m., Sallisaw Detective John Weber was dispatched to a home in the 800 block of South Kerr Boulevard in reference to a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, Weber met with the alleged victim, who had marks on her throat and arms and was holding a young child. The woman alleged that she and Butler got into an argument that later turned into a physical altercation. During the altercation, Butler allegedly locked her inside their bedroom and would not let her leave. When she was able to get out of the bedroom, she told Butler that she was leaving. He then allegedly choked her and told her that if she tried to take his daughter he would kill her, according to court records. He then went outside and stole the woman's 1993 Cadillac, the woman told police. The woman said her 1-year-old daughter was with her during the altercation.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
