The owners of Broadway Joe's restaurant in Muldrow will again open their doors for Thanksgiving, cooking up a traditional Thanksgiving meal and serving it free to residents.

For the past 10 years, the Muldrow family has served the annual dinner at their Broadway Joe's restaurant. Joe and Marina Morgan of Muldrow, restaurant owners, are continuing a family tradition started by Joe's sister, Kathy Followell, who previously owned the restaurant. The dinner is held in honor of their mother, the late Pauline Morgan, who gave even when she had little to spare.

Joe said the restaurant served between 350 and 390 people last Thanksgiving.

"Every year it gets bigger and bigger," he said.

The homemade Thanksgiving dinner includes turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls and all the trimmings, plus an array of desserts.

The dinner will be served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., and Joe said if they have any leftovers they will take them to other local organizations.

When Joe's sister first started having the dinner, Joe said only 75 or 80 people attended because they said it was for needy families. When they the dinner to include anyone who wants to just enjoy their families and not spend time in the kitchen, the response was overwhelming.

The Morgans said the meal is free to anyone who wants to attend, but the Morgans will be accepting donations to furnish Christmas for children in the area.

"We're asking for donations, but we don't expect them," Joe said.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
