German Sanchez, 35, pleaded no contest Sept. 28 to charges of felony shooting with intent to kill, possession of a firearm after former conviction of a felony, and two misdemeanors, including false identification and larceny, according to court records. He entered a blind plea last month and was awaiting sentencing.
Sequoyah County District Court Judge John Garrett handed down a one-year jail term to Sanchez and a nine-year suspended sentence. Sanchez, who has been held since his 2005 arrest, was given credit for time served and will not have to serve any more jail time.
Sanchez is accused of shooting his brother-in-law three times in the head, for an unknown reason, at his brother-in-law's home north of Muldrow on Nov. 17, 2005. Following the incident, Sheriff's deputies followed a blood trail to a patch of tall weeds about 150 yards from the shooting scene, where they discovered Sanchez hiding, deputies reported. The victim survived his injuries.
