Two-car accident sends Arkansas man to hospital

A Gore man was involved in a two-car accident west of State Highway 82 in Lequire that resulted in the hospitalization of a Charleston, Ark., man Nov. 11.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported that the accident occurred at about 10:38 a.m. less than a miles west of State Highway 82 in Haskell County.

Robert Dewayne Powless, 40, of Gore was driving a 1998 semi-truck west on State Highway 31 when he turned left into a parking lot and a 2006 Chevrolet truck traveling behind him struck the rear of his semi-truck, the OHP reported.

Neither Powless nor a passenger in his vehicle, Michael W. Powless, 38, of Morris, was injured in the accident.

According to the OHP, the driver of the second vehicle, Daniel Jay Vaughn, 35, of Charleston was trapped in his vehicle for 41 minutes before being freed by rescue personnel. He was flow to St. Edwards Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith, Ark., where he was admitted in stable condition with head, arm and leg injuries.

The OHP reported that both drivers and the passenger were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
