Both teams were playing their first games after exiting the football playoffs the previous Friday.
"We looked like we're still in football mode," said Gans coach Daryl Tyler. "But on three days practice, you can't gripe too much about getting a win."
Woodruff sank 11-of-12 free throws and Gans was 20-of-31 as a team.
Tyler was pleased mainly with the defensive effort by the Grizzlies.
"The kids played hard on defense. Gary Southern and Joe Brunk played a great game defensively, along with Nick," said Tyler. "Kameron Pastore dominated the boards for us. They didn't get too many second chances."
Pastore finished with a game-high 16 rebounds to go with seven points.
Brunk and Michael Royal both added four points for Gans, while Southern and Kyle John scored three each and Jordan Henry two.
Arkoma (0-1) was led by Chris Rogers' eight points.
In the girls' game, Gans jumped out to a 10-point halftime lead and rolled to a 49-20 win over Arkoma.
Sophomore guard CaRee Douglas pumped in a game-high 16 points for Gans, which won its first game under new coach Lenny Cooper.
"We played real well for the first time out," said Cooper. "We played under control real well. Not too many turnovers and we played real good defense."
The Lady Grizzlies led 20-10 at halftime and put together a 16-5 run in the third period to seal the victory.
Shawna Blake scored nine points for Gans, Jessica Taylor seven, Katie Brunk six, LaRissa Douglas five and Jamie Qureshi two.
Gans will play its Riverside Conference opener on Tuesday night at Porum.
