VIAN - No. 4-ranked Vian stormed into the semifinals of the Class 2A playoffs on Friday night as Vfastv Locust ran for three touchdowns in a 41-7 rout of Alva at St. John Stadium.

Locust scored on an eight-yard run in the first quarter and added a one-yard touchdown run in the second stanza to hand the Wolverines a 14-0 halftime edge.

Londell Taylor broke the game open with two TDs in the third quarter. The first came on a 50-yard interception return and the second on a 19-yard pass from Tyren Samuels, who was subbing at quarterback for the injured Seth Sloan.

Locust's third TD run came from four yards out in the final minute of the third quarter. Miguel Pratt capped Vian's scoring with a 93-yard TD run with 11:24 left in the game and Chris Peoples kicked his fifth extra point of the night to make it 41-0.

Alva quarterback Mitchell Gale tossed a 14-yard touchdown pass to Trent Lanie late in the game to ruin the shutout bid by the Vian defense.

The Wolverines ran their record to 13-0 with the victory and advanced to the state semifinals for the second consecutive season. They'll play the winner of Davis and Henryetta on Saturday, Dec. 2, at a time and location to be announced.

Alva closed its season with a record of 11-2, losing in the third round of the playoffs for the second year in a row.

These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher.
