911 service at Brent

Dear Editor:

I have watched with growing concern the dilemma of the 911 service, or lack of service, to the Brent Fire Department.

According to Chuck Wycoff, member of the Sequoyah County 911 board, in the Nov. 16 issue of the paper, 911 is charging Brent FD "for a radio frequency so the volunteer firefighters could receive 911 calls."

It wasn't mentioned that Brent FD is also having to pay

for a repeater and antenna to be installed on top of Wild Horse Mountain.

I question why the Brent Fire Department is having to pay to get 911 reception. Is it not the responsibility of 911 to provide this service to all the fire departments?

Brent FD has already installed a new antenna on the Brushy tower for 911.

What is happening to the fees being collected from our phone bills if 911 can't pay for their necessary equipment?

A concerned subscriber.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
