county cheerleaders team up for Christmas parade, toy drive

Sequoyah County "Biker's Making a Difference" (BMAD) will be getting close to wrapping up their 2006 Toy Drive at the Sallisaw Christmas Parade set for 6 p.m. Saturday, and they are still needing the public's support to ensure that every underprivileged child in the county gets to unwrap a new toy or gift for Christmas.

Beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday, BMAD and several Sequoyah County school cheerleaders will be on the grounds of Stanley Tubbs Memorial Library is Sallisaw accepting donations and new, unwrapped toys and gifts to place in the BMAD toy trailer, Buddy Holt with BMAD said.

Holt said the group has been working with several schools in Sequoyah County to get the names of underprivileged boys and girls who need to receive gifts or toys for Christmas.

The cheerleaders will be assisting with the BMAD toy drive by asking for cash donations of any amount.

"So be sure and drop your loose change or bills in their Santa Hats and Christmas Stockings," Holt said.

The cheerleaders will also lead the motorcyclists in the Sallisaw Christmas parade at 6 p.m., will be accepting donations from parade attendees on the parade route, and assisting with placing parade attendees, donated toys and gifts on the BMAD toy trailer during the parade.

Edward Poindexter, BMAD president, said that they are getting a lot of toys for 10 years of age and under, but more gifts for the 11 to 18 year olds are needed.

"Everyone is encouraged to bring a new toy, gift, or a cash donation to the Sallisaw Christmas Parade and enjoy the Christmas spirit of giving," Holt said.

BMAD, with the help of the public and several area businesses, provided Christmas gifts to over 1,200 needy county children last year.

All local and area motorcyclists who conduct themselves in a responsible, respectful, and safe manner are invited and welcome to join BMAD in this year's Sallisaw Christmas Parade and show support for the BMAD Toy Drive by wearing a Santa Hat and attaching a toy or gift on their motorcycle for the parade.

These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher.
