Several parents attended a Monday night meeting of the Sallisaw School Board to voice their concerns about the school football program.

A parent spoke on behalf of the group and asked about rumors of coaches being fired and resigning. "We're concerned about it," the parent said, noting they wanted to know if the board could let them know what is going on.

Ray Armstrong, current board president, told the group that the board has not taken any action on the employment of coaches, and contract renewals are not up at this time.

"As far as I know there's nothing on the table as of this time," he said.

In other business, the board approved the financial report, the school board meeting dates for 2007, and amend the school calendar to make up a snow day on Jan. 15. Superintendent Ron Wyrick said the board will continue to meet at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of each month.

Wyrick notified the board of a board training session through the Oklahoma State School Board Association. The board agreed to have the training on Jan. 22.

After an executive session, the board voted to re-employ Wyrick as superintendent, Burley Middleton as assistant superintendent, and Debbie Phillips as the federal programs director for the 2007-8 school year.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
