Wesley Earl Sylva, 40, was charged Dec. 7 with two counts of first-degree rape by instrumentation, two counts of lewd proposals to a minor child, and one count of felony lewd act. He was booked into the Sequoyah County Jail on a $100,000, bond. There is also a hold on Sylva from the Kansas Department of Corrections.
According to court records, Sequoyah County Investigator Roger Fuller took a report from a woman on Dec. 4 who claimed that her two daughters, ages 12 and 13, were victims of rape. The two victims are reportedly related to Sylva.
Fuller reported that the victims were interviewed separately at Help In Crisis in Sallisaw and both gave the same stories about the events. The first assault allegedly occurred in the spring or early summer of 2005 after the girls watched a sexually-oriented movie with Sylva. At that time, Sylva allegedly assaulted both girls. The victims reported the abuse occurred 12 to 13 times per week until August 2006. Sylva would allegedly give the girls money or buy them things after the assaults. The victims reported they were afraid of Sylva because he allegedly told them that if they ever told anyone he would kill them and their mother.
The victims also told police about a game of strip basketball that Sylva allegedly made them play.
