The Gore yearbook staff and the Gore Middle School newspaper classes received recognition on Media Day held at Northeastern State University April 1.

The Gore Middle School newspaper received a first place award for their work on “The Pirate Pride” in overall junior high newspaper competition.

“My newspaper staff has exceeded any expectations that I have had for them. I think they have had an enjoyable year,” Brenda Williams, advisor, said.

The 2009 Gore yearbook “U Had 2 B There” editors Ashley Wanger and Andrea McGee, received the third place award in the 2A division.

The yearbook staff also received several individual award including Patrisha Baker, Sam Kusler, and Jackie Eagle, first place in yearbook title page design; Hali Sumpter, first place in on-site photography; Patrisha Baker, Taralee Isbell, Sam Kusler, and Hali Sumpter, second place in theme; Jackie Eagle, third place in advertising; Kylie Lowder, third place in photography; Savanna Isbell, third place in photography; and Patrisha Baker, third place in yearbook division page.

“I was very proud of how well my yearbook staff performed this year in each of their respective areas, “ Teresa Herring, advisor, said.

“This is the fifth year that Gore yearbook has competed and received recognition at Media Day,” Herring said.

“It is so nice to be recognized for our had work on the yearbook,” Madison Cotherman, assistant business editor, said.

“I am very honored to received first place in the on-site photography. This is my third year to have placed in the competition. Photography means a lot to me and I love to capture all sorts of images,” Hali Sumpter said.
