Kevin Wilson, Eastern Oklahoma Development District community development director, said the grant, if awarded, will be for $170,000 and must be matched by the rural water district with $143,870.
The rural water district, Wilson said, wants to build a new water pump station, with the capacity to pump 800 gallons of water per minute, at Fields Chapel to improve water service to the east side of the county, and to upgrade a water pump at Akins to improve service to the west side of the county.
Wilson said the rural water district has a good chance of receiving the grant.
Rural Water District No. 5, between Gore and Vian, recently received a $132,228 CDBG to relocate a water line.
Wilson explained the water line runs down a gravel county road, which will soon be paved.
“They are getting ready to do an overlay on that road and the line runs down the middle of road. The line will be moved so that, if there are issues with the road later, it won’t involve the water line,” Wilson said.
