ARKOMA - The Gans Grizzlies notched their first win of the basketball season on Tuesday as Cody Gardenhire, Joe Brunk and Mike Royal all scored in double figures to lead Gans to a 65-49 win over Cave Springs at the Arkoma Invitational.

The first-round victory put Gans in the Wednesday semifinals against County Line, Ark., and improved the Grizzlies’ record to 1-2.

Gardenhire pumped in a team-high 23 points for Gans, while Brunk netted 13 and Royal had 12. Blake Wagner added seven for Gans, Andy Blake seven and Kaleb Kepke two.

Gans jumped out to an 18-7 lead in the first quarter, but Cave Springs roared back with a 23-13 run in the second period to pull within a point by halftime. The Grizzlies regained control with a 14-7 surge in the third quarter.

Cave Springs was led by Two Leaf Ross, who scored 28 points.

Gore 55, Oaks 31 (G)

BRAGGS - The Lady Pirates claimed a first-round win over Oaks on Tuesday at the Greenleaf Invitational as four players hit double figures.

Senior Kera Smith paced Gore with 14 points, while Dena Qualls added 11, Baili Kizzia 10 and Krista Cameron 10 for the Lady Pirates.

Gore improved to 2-0 with the triumph and advances to the Thursday night semifinals against Porum.
