Hunter Spencer of Vian High School, Rebecca Brannon of Gans High School, Jessica Jester of Gans High School, and Matthew Land of Sallisaw High School placed in the top four in the Youth Tour essay writing contest held the Cookson Hills Electric Cooperative (CHEC).
This year’s essay topic was “The Future of Our Energy.” Each candidate submitted an essay for a judge to choose the four finalists. Then the finalists were invited to give an oral presentation of their essay for the Cookson Hills Electric board of directors and special quests.
The students will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.
Students will spend a day on Capitol Hill meeting with Oklahoma’s congressional delegation and will include a visit to the Smithsonian, Pentagon, the White House, and other Washington monuments.
All high school juniors who live or go to school in CHEC’s service area are eligible to apply for the trip, Kristie Cash, Youth Tour coordinator, said.
