Candidates file for board posts, two slots on Sallisaw commission

Four candidates filed last week to seek two positions that will be open on the Sallisaw Board of City Commissioners next year.

During the same filing period last week, candidates seeking a spot on their local school boards also filed their declarations of candidacy.

The Sallisaw commission election is Feb. 10. The school elections are also Feb. 10, and if a runoff is needed it will be held April 7.

The candidates for Ward 2 in Sallisaw are Don Randolph, the incumbent, and Charley L. Davis Jr.

The candidates for Ward 4 in Sallisaw are Carol Wood and Matthew W. Bennett. Incumbent Wayne Ferguson is not seeking re-election.

The following filed for school board posts:

—Belfonte School, Office No. 1 - Michael Dee Hyde of Roland, who is the incumbent and will remain in office since he has no opponent.

—Belfonte School, Office No. 3 - Michael A. Possage of Muldrow who is unopposed and will complete a two-year unexpired term.

—Brushy School, Office No. 1 - Michelle Cooper of Sallisaw, who is the incumbent and will remain in office since she has no opponent.

—Central School, Office No. 4 - Greg Walton of Sallisaw, who is the incumbent and will remain in office since he has no opponent.

—Gans School, Office No. 4 - Melvin DuVaul of Muldrow, who is the incumbent and will remain in office since he has no opponent.

—Liberty School, Office No. 1 - Steve Gray of Roland, who is the incumbent and will remain in office since he has no opponent.

—Marble City School, Office No. 1 - Ramon Bolin of Vian, who is the incumbent and will remain in office since he has no opponent.

—Marble City School, Office No. 2 - Barry Spyres of Marble City, who is the incumbent and will remain in office since he has no opponent.

—Moffett School, Office No. 1 - Will R. Dean of Moffett, who is the incumbent and will remain in office since he has no opponent.

—Muldrow School, Office No. 4 - Dowen Green of Muldrow, who is the incumbent and will remain in office since he has no opponent.

—Muldrow School, Office No. 1 - Charles Howard of Muldrow, who is unopposed and will take office automatically.

—Roland School, Office No. 4 - Jerry Brooks of Roland and John Dean with a Muldrow address will run against one another in the Feb. 10 election.

—Sallisaw School, Office No. 4 - Leanne Whitekiller of Sallisaw, who is the incumbent and will remain in office since she has no opponent.

—Vian School, Office No. 4 - three candidates, all of Vian, are seeking the post. They are Bill Reynolds, Carlotta Scarborough and Annie J. Goolsby.

—Gore School, Office No. 4 - Arnie D. McGee of Gore, who is the incumbent and will remain in office since he has no opponent.
