Two Colorado men who where on their way to a three-day music festival took a detour to the Sallisaw City Jail after officers discovered a buffet of alleged drugs in their possession.

Johnny Ray, 29, of Boulder and Omriel Cook, 32, of Lyons were arrested shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday after Sallisaw police officers responded to a domestic disturbance involving a gun at Motel 6.

Police Chief Shaloa Edwards said when officers arrived a resident of the room next door to the reported domestic disturbance was outside. He said officers where unaware if the man was involved in the disturbance at the time and began to question him.

“The man acted very nervous, which made officers grow suspicious,” Edwards said.

After officers confiscated the gun involved in the domestic disturbance and finished the call regarding the domestic disturbance, officers began questioning the man, later identified as Ray. Officers asked to search the room and their vehicle and allegedly discovered a variety of drugs.

Officers seized nearly five pounds of marijuana that was contained in four large plastic bags. Each bag was marked with a different name allegedly marking where the alleged marijuana came from. One bag was marked Maui and another bag was marked African. Officers also found what they believed to be marijuana brownies, chocolate covered mushrooms and two other plastic bags filled with dehydrated mushrooms.

Edwards said the two men said they stopped for the night at Motel 6 and they were on their way to Wakarusa, which is a three-day music festival at Mulberry Mountain in Ozark, Ark. The music festival ran from Thursday to Sunday.

Ray was booked on possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and is being held on a $10,500 bond. Cook was booked on possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Cook is being held on a $5,500 bond. Their arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher.
