Kristine Cockrell, 40, of Muldrow was charged June 29 with second degree burglary and knowingly concealing stolen property after authorities asked her if she broke into a house and took the items.
According to the charges Cockrell allegedly broke into Justin Benham’s home on June 20 and took a fishing reel, a trolling motor and some other items. Neighbors and witnesses were able to tell Sequoyah County Sheriff deputies the location of the suspected burglar and the vehicle description.
When deputies located the vehicle and the suspect, later identified as Cockrell, they asked Cockrell about the missing items from the Benham’s residence. Deputies reported she said she had taken the items from the home because she thought they were abandoned. Cockrell gave all the items back to deputies except the trolling motor. Deputies reported that Cockrell said she pawned it at pawnshop in Muldrow.
Cockrell was booked into the Sequoyah County Jail on June 27 and released June 30 on an $8,000 bond. Cockrell was scheduled for arraignment in Sequoyah County District Court, in Sallisaw on July 7, but according to court records, she failed to appear and a bench has been issued for her arrest.
