Gore, Webbers Falls compete at Weleetka Tournament
WELEETKA — The Gore Lady Pirates and the Webbers Falls Lady Warriors represented the area at last week’s rain-shortened Weleetka Tournament.
The Lady Pirates went 1-1 for the first two days of the tournament before Saturday’s action was rained out. Gore edged tournament-host Weleetka 5-4 but lost 6-0 to Porum.
The Lady Warriors went 0-2 in the tournament, losing 2-1 to Haileyville, then being eliminated by tournament host Weleetka by the score of 10-1.
Gore coach Michael Randolph said the final day of action in the tournament is going to try to be rescheduled, but a make-up date has not been set as of press time.
In Gore’s win over Weleetka, the Lady Pirates (1-1) walked off the Lady Outlaws as Gore rallied from a 4-3 deficit as Ricki Huckbay hit an RBI single to tie the game and Sophie O’Connor hit a sacrifice fly for the game winner.
For the game, O’Connor was 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs batted in and a run scored, Emily Daily doubled and scored twice and River Shoemake doubled with an RBI and a run scored for Gore.
Cheyenne Davidson (1-1) got the win, pitching four innings with six strikeouts.
In Gore’s loss to Porum, Porum pitcher Leia Johnson threw a one-hitter.
A single run in the second inning, a three-run third inning and a two-run fourth inning put the Lady Panthers ahead 6-0.
Shoemake’s single was the only offense the Lady Pirates could muster against Johnson.
Davidson took the loss, despite fanning five batters in four innings.
In Webbers Falls’ loss to Haileyville, Haileyville scored twice in the first inning. Bridgette Baer’s one-out, RBI single scored Shkyra Scruggs to cut the Webbers Falls’ deficit to 2-1, but the time limit was reached to end the game.
In defeat, Baer hit an RBI single, Gracie Sturgell singled and Scruggs scored once for Webbers Falls.
Rhilee Jones (0-3) suffered the loss, despite striking out three batters in three innings and throwing a four-hitter.
In Webbers Falls’ loss to tournament host Weleetka, the Lady Outlaws scored three runs in the first inning for a 3-0 lead.
A Weleetka error on Bentley Ward’s grounder with two outs scored Katie Frazier to cut the deficit to 3-1 after an inning, but the Lady Warriors (0-4) got no closer as Weleetka scored twice in the second inning and five runs in the third inning to take a 10-1 lead.
In defeat, Frazier doubled and scored once for the Lady Warriors.
Jones took the loss, although she fanned two batters in three innings.
