Lady Grizzlies go 1-3 in Leflore Tournament

LEFLORE — The Gans Lady Grizzlies went 1-3 in last week’s Leflore Tournament to begin the season after being rained out Aug. 12 at Webbers Falls.

The lone win for the Lady Grizzlies was an 8-2 win over Talihina. Gans lost 4-2 to Heavener, 5-2 to McCurtain and 2-1 to Haworth.

In the win over Talihina, the Lady Grizzlies broke a 1-all tie after an inning with a two-run second inning to take the lead for good at 3-1. After the Lady Golden Tigers cut their deficit to 3-2 after two innings, Gans put away the game with a threerun third inning and a two-run fourth inning.

For the game, K’Cee Osborn doubled with a run batted in and a run scored, Gabbie Price singled and scored once, Abigail Leach singled with two runs scored and an RBI and Brighton Dorsey singled with two RBIs and a run scored for Gans.

Leach got the win for her first win of the season, going the first 2.1 innings with three strikeouts. Maddie Freeman got the final two outs, one of which came by strikeout.

In the loss to Heavener, the Lady Wolves scored twice in the first inning for a 2-0 lead. After the Lady Grizzlies cut their deficit to 2-1 in the third inning, the Lady Wolves responded with a two-run third inning for a 4-1 lead. Gans scored once in the fourth inning but came up short.

In defeat, Dorsey tripled with an RBI, while Leach singled with an RBI for Gans.

Leach took the loss, despite fanning four batters in three innings.

In the loss to McCurtain, the Lady Bulldogs scored single runs in each of the first four innings for a 4-0 lead.

In defeat, Leach tripled, while Price and Osborn each singled and scored once for Gans.

Leach took the loss, despite recording five strikeouts in three innings. Freeman went the final two innings with two Ks.

In the loss to Haworth, after the Lady Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a steal of home plate by Freeman, the Lady Lions took the lead for good with a tworun third inning.

In defeat, Freeman’s single was the only hit Gans could muster off Haworth’s pitcher.

Freeman (0-1) took the loss, despite striking out five batters in two innings. Leach went the final two innings with four Ks.
