Lady Tiger duo ready for state meet

At last Saturday’s Class 2A Regional Meet at North Rock Creek High School north of Shawnee, the Central Lady Tigers got two of their members, Paris Campbell and Cambree Bair, qualified for this Saturday’s state meet at Edmond Santa Fe High School. Campbell was very excited she had made the cut for the biggest meet of the season.

“I was surprised and excited, but I was scared at the same time because I wasn’t expecting it (making state) at all,” Campbell said.

Bair will be making her second state meet appearance in three seasons.

“I qualified my freshman year, so I was already kind of used to it,” Bair said.

Both girls were not certain if only one of them was going to make it, but when they both did they were even more excited that both of them got qualified for Saturday’s state meet.

“It’s a lot better because if Cambree had to have to do it by herself, I would have felt bad for her,” Campbell said. “If I had to have done it by myself, I would have been terrified. We’re looking forward to it (running together).”

“I was nervous because I didn’t know if Paris had made it,” Bair said. “I was a little bit scared to do it (run at state) by myself. When I found out Paris had made it, I got really excited because we can get to train together. I’m happy and grateful. We’re excited (getting to run at state together).”

Both ladies would love to be crowned the Class 2A state champion on Saturday.

“Honestly, it would really mean a lot to me and the school,” Campbell said. “To me, it would be a really big accomplishment. I’m good at it. I don’t like it, but I do it because I’m good at it. It would be really big for me (to win state).”

“I would be very shocked, but I’d be grateful and over the moon about (being a state champion),” Bair said. “That would be a very good accomplishment.”

Any underclassmen who finish in the top 10 will earn All-Star status, the equivalent of a senior making All-State by finishing in the top 10. That honor also would be a big thrill for the Central Lady Tigers duo.

“It might not be first place, but I would still feel pretty good about it,” Campbell said. “Just finishing in the top (10) in the state would be great. I would be really proud of myself.”

“I would again be grateful,” Bair said. “It would be a big accomplishment in itself.”
