Local powerlifters place at state meet; Sallisaw JH lifter wins state title

EL RENO — Several local high school and junior high powerlifters placed at last week’s state meets.

At the Class 4A Junior High State Meet on Thursday, Sallisaw’s Hagan Compton (915 total pounds lifted) was crowned the state champion in his weight class, while teammate Rowdi Nickell (770) was state runner-up in his division.

Two other Sallisaw JH lifters were seventh — Jack Sparks (625 total pounds lifted) and Alex Escobar (735).

As for other Sallisaw junior high results, Xander Montgomery (495 total pounds lifted) and William Arnold (850) were 12th, Mattox Buckaloo was 13th (595), Dylan Lee was 15th (630), Connor Hancock (630) and Robert Bennett (795) were 16th, Cash Girdner was 17th (475) and Eli Wilson was 18th (565).

Also in Thursday’s Class 4A JH State Meet, Muldrow’s Landon Brown was 16th in the 168-pound division.

In Friday’s Class 4A High School State Meet, Sallisaw had four competitors. Ty Bennett (1,075 pounds lifted) was 11th, Austin File (1,145) and Cade Tate (1,195) were 13th and T.J. Abercrombie was 16th (1,200).

Also in Friday’s Class 4A State Meet, three Muldrow Bulldogs placed. Braxton Thrailkill was 11th in the 242-pound division with a total of 1,285 pounds lifted, Alejandro Santacruz was 11th at 198 pounds (1,170 total pounds lifted) and David Keenan was 18th in the 123-pound division (655).

In Saturday’s Class A High School State Meet, Gore’s three high school powerlifters, 168-pounder Devon Mannon, 200-pounder Antonio Parker and heavyweight Drake Cowart, competed but did not place.

In Saturday’s Class B High School State Meet, Gans Grizzly powerlifter Anthony Vasquez placed seventh at 198 pounds. He set two personal records on two of his lifts and tied a personal record on the third lift.

In Thursday’s Class 3A Junior High State Meet, the Roland Rangers had two powerlifters place as Jayden Fancher was seventh at heavyweight, while Joshawa Crase was seventh at 198 pounds.

In Thursday’s Class A JH State Meet, the Gore Pirates junior high powerlifting team saw five members earn medals at the Class A State Meet.

Cole Ralston, Jaydan Gates and Cole Brooksher were runners-up in their respective weight divisions, while Beau Moore and Treydan Daugherty were fourth.
