Sallisaw splits road matches at Stilwell

By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

STILWELL — The Sallisaw High School soccer teams split their District 4A-4 road matches against the host Stilwell Indians and Lady Indians on Tuesday night.

The night ended with the Black Diamonds staying undefeated on the season with a 6-1 victory over the Indians.

However, the Lady Indians blanked the Lady Diamonds 2-0 in the opener.

In the boys’ match, the Black Diamonds (9-0 overall, 3-0 in district play) got another hat trick of three goals from Wes Rodriguez, plus single goals from Sama Salinas, Wyatt Allen and Christian Morales.

The Black Diamonds used both goalkeepers as Josh Taylor had eight saves, while Anthony Adame made three saves.

In the girls’ match, Jocelyn Rivera made 10 saves as the Lady Diamonds (5-4, 1-2) were blanked.

The Sallisaw teams were slated to face district foe and the archrival Poteau squads on Thursday night at Costner Stadium before returning the home finale against Hilldale at Perry F. Lattimore Stadium, with the girls’ match at 5 p.m. and the boys’ contest at 7 p.m.
