Sallisaw track teams sweep Keys Invitational championships

PARK HILL — The Sallisaw High School track teams put an exclamation point on the regular season by sweeping the team championships at Tuesday’s Keys Invitational.

On the girls’ side, the Lady Diamonds won the meet with 110 points, with the host Lady Cougars a distant second (75 points). The Central Lady Tigers were third (73) and the Roland Lady Rangers were ninth (28).

On the boys’ side, the Black Diamonds won the meet with 126 points, nipping the Rangers, who ended up runners-up (118 points). The Tigers were fifth (55).

“We had a delay to start (the meet), then another delay between the girls and boys 800-meter relay,” Sallisaw coach Richard Pratt said. “I was proud of our kids’ resolve after the three delays, plus getting wet.”

The Lady Diamonds had a 1-2-4 finish in the long jump as Kayli Macon won the event (16-2), Hannah Palmer was second (15-4.5) and Emma Martin was fourth (15-1). Roland’s Cadence Cole was eighth (13-9).

The Lady Diamonds won both the 400- and 800-meter relays. Gonzalez, Macon, Emma Martin and Ava Armstrong won the 400-meter relay (51.83 seconds), while Central’s foursome of Jhasleyn Gonzalez, Gracie Thompson, Keeley Poindexter and Kaitlin Clark was sixth (56.95).

Macon, Jazmyne Wright, Palmer and Armstrong took gold in the 800-meter relay (1:52.81), with Central’s quartet of Paris Campbell, Poindexter, Cambree Bair and Alyvia Warner coming in fourth (1:55.11).

Roland’s Molly Carver won the 800-meter run (2:40.18), while coming in runner-up in the 1,600-meter (6:00) and the 3,200-meter runs (13:14.37).

Macon was second (27.03 seconds), Armstrong was eighth (29.1), Sallisaw’s Kylie Holt was ninth (29.11), Clark was 10th (29.14), Central’s Haylei Hensley was 23rd (35.26) and Roland’s Aita Ndoye Diene was 24th (36.2) in the 200-meter dash.

In the girls’ 100-meter hurdles, Sallisaw’s Sydney Weedon was runnerup (18.06 seconds), Warner was fourth (18.81), Sallisaw’s Chloe Nelson was fifth (19.05), Central’s Alexxus Bolin was sixth (20.49).

It was a 2-3-4 finish in the girls’ 300-meter hurdles as Warner was second (50.12 seconds), Sallisaw’s Josie Martin was third (51.66) and Weedon was fourth (52.16).

Campbell, Ryleigh Pierce, Scarlett Harrison and Bair were runners-up for Central in the 3,200-meter relay (11:18.88), while Central’s foursome of Campbell, Bair, Gonzalez and Warner were third (4:24.58) and Sallisaw’s quartet of Holt, Josie Martin, Weedon and Wright was fifth (4:29.08) in the 1,600-meter relay.

Central’s Charlie Petree was runner-up in both the discus (96-11) and the shot put (33-2).

As for other local discus throwers, Sallisaw’s Delaney Compton was fourth (92-8), Sallisaw’s Macie Gremillion was eighth (85-6) and Roland’s Jestina Cantrell was ninth (85-0).

After Petree’s second-place finish in the shot put, Sallisaw’s Channing Wilson was third (31-5), Sallisaw’s Aubrey Webb was seventh (30-3), Gremillion was eighth (301) and Cantrell was 15th (24-5).

Natalie Gonzalez was third (13.44 seconds), Roland’s Adriana Moya was sixth (13.8), Clark was eighth (14.05), Emma Martin was 10th (14.31), Thompson was 17th (15.04), Jhaselyn Gonzalez was 26th (18.39) and Nelson was 30th (18.74) in the 100-meter dash.

In the girls’ 400-meter dash, Bair was fourth (1:04.72), Moya was sixth (1:07.74), Sallisaw’s Michelle Laudan was 10th (1:09.7), Campbell was 11th (1:09.77), Sallisaw’s Casey Brackett was 13th (1:11.93) and Harrison was 16th (1:18.58).

Pierce was fifth (2:54.31), Central’s Xhayla Mosby was seventh (2:56.63) and Harrison was 11th (3:00.27) in the girls’ 800-meter run, while Mosby was eighth (7:00) and Cole was ninth (7:10) in the 1,600-meter run.

On the boys’ side, the team championship came down to the final event of the day, the 1,600-meter relay.

Sallisaw’s mile-relay team of Kenyan Hill, Cooper Cox, Ish Patel and Julius Lemon came in fourth (3:51.17), while Roland’s foursome of Josh Bower, Damonte Owens, Landon Killer and Mason Kemp was fifth (3:58.06).

“For the boys, the team championship came down to the mile relay,” Pratt said. “We had to beat Roland.”

The 1,600-meter relay was won by Central’s quartet of Gavin Randolph, Dillon Miller, Braxin Goodson and Noah Buzzard (3:38.17).

The Black Diamonds won the 800-meter relay as Hill, Cox, Lemon and Cooper Jackson had a winning time of 1:34.99, with Central’s foursome of Randolph, Jake Woods, Goodson and Buzzard coming in runners-up (1:35.77). Roland’s quartet of Bower, Owens, Camren Hartt and Aden Sutton was fifth (1:41.58).

The Rangers won the other two relay events. Uriah Phillips, Trevor Lasiter, Nate Criswell and Paul Johnson won the 400-meter relay (45.16 seconds) with Sallisaw’s squad of Jackson, Cox, Hill and Lemon coming in runner-up (45.53), while Killer, Kemp, Owens and Bower claimed gold for Roland in the 3,200-meter relay (9:07.23) with Sallisaw’s Patel, Jonas Reid, Dawson Glover and Sama Salinas coming in runners-up (9:19.09).

Individually, it was a local 1-2 finish in the 100-meter dash as Hill won the event (11.42 seconds), with Lasiter coming in second (11.51). Jackson was sixth (11.92), Central’s Aidan Sainer was seventh (12.14), Sallisaw’s Bo Brackett was eighth (12.22), Central’s Aiden Cawhorn was 13th (12.78), Central’s Brycen Chandler-Eisman was 18th (13.16) and Criswell was 22nd (around 15 seconds).

Cox won the 200-meter dash (22.94 seconds), with Goodson placing third (23.63), Hartt finishing fourth (23.91), Sutton placing seventh (24.28), Sallisaw’s Sean Laudan finishing eighth (24.82), Roland’s Billy McElhaney placing ninth (24.99), Lemon finishing 14th (25.7) and Chandler-Eisman placing 17th (26.46).

It was a local 1-2-3-5 finish in the boys’ 300-meter hurdles as Goodson was first (41.63 seconds), Sallisaw’s Tyler File was runner-up (46.17), Roland’s Jack Johnson was third (48.73) and Sallisaw’s Talon Flynn was fifth (52.81). File also was second (18.32) and McElhaney was third (20.66) in the 110-meter hurdles.

Paul Johnson claimed gold in the long jump (20-11) with Phillips taking second (20-1.5), followed by Owens in fourth place (18-1.5) and Bo Brackett in sixth place (15-4).

Salinas was the runner-up in the 1,600-meter (4:58.42) and the 3,200-meter runs (10:41.75).

As for other local 1,600-meter run placers, Reid was sixth (5:18.39), Sallisaw’s Alex Gregory was ninth (5:55.22) and Central’s Rowan Contente was 15th (6:35.73).

In the 3,200-meter run, Reid was sixth (11:44.51), Roland’s Hunter Lowe was seventh (12:40.65) and Glover was eighth (12:42.75).

The boys’ discus saw a 2-3-4-6 local finish as Roland’s Dalton Crossno was runner-up (45-10), Sallisaw’s Caden Blount was third (40-10), Roland’s Braxton Prewett was fourth (39-2) and Central’s Cole Holcomb was sixth (38-11). Sallisaw’s Jackson Harris was ninth (34-8) Killer was third (2:13.3), Patel was sixth (2:21.24), Buzzard was seventh (2:25.32) in the boys’ 800-meter run, while Prewett was third (117-6), Sallisaw’s Austin File was sixth (103-9) and Talon Reese was ninth (90-1) in the discus.

In the boys’ 400-meter dash, Woods was fifth (59.76 seconds), while Sallisaw’s Ethan Wilhite was ninth (1:00.74).
