Special ceremony planned for Vietnam veterans

A special ceremony for the family members of veterans who gave their lives in Vietnam has been announced by Don Nichols of the Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH).

The MOPH will be honoring family members of veterans who gave their lives in Vietnam at their National Monument in Tahlequah at 1:30 p.m. on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. The monument is located at the corner of Muskogee Ave. and Bertha Parker By-Pass (2001 S. Muskogee Ave.)

The one of a kind monument, which was established to honor all veterans, is directly connected to the Virtual Wall Database. The Virtual Wall includes detailed information about each person who lost their lives in Vietnam. It includes, branch of service, hometown, rank, casualty date and personal reflections or photos submitted by family members. Visitors to the monument can scan the newly installed QR to access data at the Virtual Wall.

Family members will be invited to participate in a special wreath laying ceremony on Nov. 11 at 1:30 p.m.
