Webbers Falls blanks Gans to finish 3rd in district play, will meet Waukomis in playoffs
The Webbers Falls Warriors were wanting to win their regular-season finale last Friday night at Gans to secure third place in District BII-4. They not only won, but handled the Grizzlies to the tune of 46-0 in a game that ended in the third quarter due to the 45-point mercy rule.
The Warriors (6-4 overall, 3-2 in district play) will travel for the second straight season to begin the Class B, Division II playoffs with a road game against the Waukomis Chiefs (7-3) at Waukomis High School’s Lovell Field at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Grizzlies, whose Senior Night was spoiled by the loss to the Grizzlies, end the season at 3-7 overall and 1-4 in district play.
There were slim hopes for the Grizzlies to make the Class B, Division II playoffs, but it all centered upon not only beating the Warriors, but beating them by 15 points or more — and Copan beating Arkoma by 15 points or more. However, the Gans loss to Webbers Falls eliminated the Grizzlies from playoff contention.
The Warriors led 24-0 after a quarter and 40-0 at halftime.
Brutus Robinson hit Gunner Shelby on a 26- and an 84-yard touchdown pass, while connecting with Trysten Wilbourn on a 66-yard TD pass.
