Sallisaw wrestlers place in IceFighter Open

TULSA — Several Sallisaw high school, junior high and sixth/seventh grade wrestlers placed at last Saturday’s 34th annual Union/Pryor IceFighter Open.

Four wrestlers won titles. Briar James was first at 155 pounds in the junior high boys division, Elecktra Locust won the 190-pound title in the junior high girls division and Jeffrey Wheat was the champion at 119 pounds in the sixth-seventh grade boys division. At 117 pounds in the junior high girls division, Melania Duke was Sallisaw’s fourth champion, while teammate Riley Bridges was third.

Patrick Fletcher was runner-up at 92 pounds in the sixth-seventh grade boys division, while Kylie Kehl was second and Mackenzie Moler third at 89 pounds in the sixth- seventh grade girls division.

Toren Gates (86 pounds, junior high boys division) and Gabrielle McFarland (89 pounds, junior high girls) were third, while Lucas McAlister (113 pounds, high school boys), Mason Leach (92 pounds, JH boys) and Hudson Hicks (170 pounds, JH boys) were fourth.

The Sallisaw Black Diamonds junior high wrestlers will participate in the Pryor Tournament at 8 a.m. Dec. 6.

The Black Diamonds will be idle until going to the Mid-America Tournament on Dec. 12-13 at Enid’s Stride Bank Center.

The Lady Diamonds will return to action next Friday and Saturday at the Jay Border Wars.
