Roland teams sweep Muldrow for county titles

Central girls, Vian boys finish third; Gore squads sweep consolation championships

The Roland High School basketball teams had resounding wins over their archrivals from Muldrow in the championship games of the 2026 Sequoyah County Area Classic, which took place Thursday through Saturday at Muldrow High School’s Roger Sharp Activity Center.

The Lady Rangers handled the Lady Bulldogs 56-27 in Saturday night’s title game, while the Runnin’ Rangers broke open a close game in the second half to down the ’Dogs 71-43 in the boys championship game.

The Lady Rangers reached the title game with a 54-22 semifinal win Friday night over Stigler, which edged Gore 49-45 in Thursday’s openinground game. The Runnin’ Rangers broke open a close game with the Vian Wolverines to win Friday night’s championship semifinal 68-43. The Wolverines pummeled Stigler 61-37 in Thursday’s openinground game.

The Lady Bulldogs got to the girls championship as they got past the Central Lady Tigers 42-39 in Friday afternoon’s semifinals. Central opened the tournament with a 38-15 win over Vian on Thursday.

The ’Dogs made it to the championship game with a 6244 semifinal win over Central on Friday evening after the Tigers routed Gore 69-27 in Thursday’s opening-round game.

Saturday’s third-place finishers were the Lady Tigers and the Wolverines as Central got past Stigler 53-36, while Vian got its second second-half comeback victory over the Tigers as the Wolverines won 49-39.

The Gore teams swept the consolation title games to begin Saturday’s action as the Lady Pirates tamed the Vian Lady Wolverines 60-35, while the Pirates held off the Stigler Panthers 51-50.

SATURDAY’S GAMES CHAMPIONSHIPS

GIRLS

ROLAND 56, MULDROW 27

The Lady Rangers (6-2) put away the game early, leading 16-2 after a quarter, 25-14 at halftime and 43-22 after three quarters.

For the game, Ryanne Nelke scored a game-high 23 points to lead Roland, followed by Lillian Cole with 12 points, Molly Carver with 11 points and Halle Freeman with 10 points.

In defeat, London Hardin led the Lady Bulldogs (4-5) with 11 points, followed by Kayla Ellingberg with six points, Emma Fields and Tae Williams with three points each and Kilah Ellingberg and Jaydin Dean with two points apiece.

BOYS

ROLAND 71, MULDROW 43

The opening quarter saw nine lead changes, with the ninth lead change coming with a second on the clock as Mason Kemp hit a 3-point basket to give the Runnin’ Rangers (100) a 22-21 lead.

The Runnin’ Rangers and the Bulldogs (6-3) forced three ties in the first part of the second quarter, but Roland ended the first half on a 10-2 run, capped by a 3-pointer by Damonte “Bubba” Owens, to put the Runnin’ Rangers ahead 38-30 at halftime.

The second half was all Roland as it outscored Muldrow 33-13 to win going away.

For the game, Owens scored a game-high 31 points to lead Roland, followed by Landon Fowler with 12 points, Kemp with 11 points, Kade Shook with 10 points, Paul Johnson with three points and Tae Smith and Cason Perryman with two points apiece.

In defeat, Teaguen Collins scored 18 points and Jesse Kilinc added 14 points to lead Muldrow, followed by Parker Sevenstar with five points, D.J. Massey with four points and DeShawn Willson with two points.

THIRD-PLACE GAMES

GIRLS

CENTRAL 53, STIGLER 36

The Lady Panthers hung around for about half of the first quarter before the Lady Tigers (7-2) started pulling away.

Central had a 21-9 lead after a quarter, 37-15 at halftime and 47-21 after three periods.

For the game, Central put a trio of players into double figures, led by Cambree Bair’s game-high 16 points, followed by Cheyenne Busch’s 12 points and 10 points from Sara Williams. Paris Campbell scored nine points, followed by Gracie Thompson with four points and Sarah Buchanan with two points.

BOYS

VIAN 49, CENTRAL 39

On Jan. 5 when the two teams met at Vian High School’s B.J. Traw Gymnasium, it was a fourth-quarter rally by the Wolverines that doomed the Tigers. In Saturday evening’s third-place game, it was a second-half rally by Vian that did in Central.

Down 24-20 at halftime, the Wolverines (4-2), winners of four of their last five games, outscored the Tigers (5-3) in the second half to the tune of 29-15 to win going away.

For the game, Vian put three players into double figures, led by Jeremiah Marshall’s game-high 14 points, followed by Joe O’Neal and Dee Antwine with 10 points apiece. Masyn Wright scored nine points, followed, while Ledger Folsom and Trey Antwine each added three points.

In defeat, Josh Brunk scored 12 points and Gavin Randolph added 10 points to lead Central, followed by Braxin Goodson with six points, Paitton Merrill and Noah Buzzard with five points each and Cale Stewart with a free throw.

CONSOLATION CHAMPIONSHIPS

GIRLS

GORE 60, VIAN 35

The Lady Wolverines (0-5) cut their deficit to 20-17 midway through the second quarter, but they got no closer.

The Lady Pirates (5-4) ended the first half with an 11-2 run to take a 31-19 halftime lead, which became a 47-23 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

For the game, Emily Daily scored a game-high 22 points to lead Gore, followed by Rayleigh Moore with 14 points, Kennedy Williams with 11 points, River Shoemake with 10 points and Sophie O’Connor with three points.

In defeat, Olivia Lovell scored 12 points and Gracie Buttery added 11 points to lead Vian, followed by Shelbie Glass with six points, Kiah Richardson with four points and Rayleigh Terrill with two points.

BOYS

GORE 51, STIGLER 50

The game was tied at 48-all with 2:38 left to play in the game, but the Pirates (6-4) scored the next three points to take a 51-48 lead.

After the Panthers cut their deficit to 51-50, they had a couple of chances in the waning seconds to score the game-winning basket, but their attempts failed — and the Pirates survived.

For the game, Cain Cooper led Gore with a game-high 21 points, followed by Eli Munson with 14 points, Keiden Denton with eight points and Tate Brooksher and Keeton Rowe with four points apiece.

BOYS

MULDROW 62, CENTRAL 44

Trailing 24-20 at halftime, the Bulldogs came out of the doghouse in biting mode as they outscored the Tigers 42-20 in the second half to win going away.

For the game, Jesse Kilinc scored a game-high 26 points to lead Muldrow, followed by Teaguen Collins with 10 points, DeShawn Willson and Parker Sevenstar with seven points each, Jermauree Palmer with five points, D.J. Massey with three points and E.J. Zanders and Jack Pyeatt with two points apiece.

In defeat, Noah Buzzard led Central with 18 points, followed by Josh Brunk with seven points, Braxin Goodson with six points, Aiden Cawhorn with four points, Cale Stewart and Jake Woods with two points each and Brycen Chandler-Eisman with a free throw.

ROLAND 68, VIAN 43

The Runnin’ Rangers led wire-to-wire, but the Wolverines kept the first three quarters interesting as they kept hanging around, down 18-11 after a period, 30-24 at halftime and 47-37 after three quarters. However, the Runnin’ Rangers outscored the Wolverines 21-6 in the final period to pull away for the win, which snapped Vian’s three-game winning streak.

For the game, Damonte “Bubba” Owens scored a game-high 29 points to lead Roland, followed by Kade Shook with 15 points, Mason Kemp with nine points, Landon Fowler with six points, Bryson Myers with four points, Raidyn Knight with three points and Josh Bower with two points.

In defeat, Masyn Wright scored 14 points to lead Vian, followed by Joe O’Neal with eight points, Ledger Folsom with seven points, Jeremiah Marshall and Dee Antwine with five points each and Isaiah Owens and Trace Sanders with two points apiece.

GIRLS

MULDROW 42, CENTRAL 39

Trailing 21-15 at halftime, the Lady Tigers came out of their den on fire in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 15-6 to open the period to take a 30-27 lead late in the quarter. Muldrow’s London Hardin hit a 3-point basket to knot the game at 30-all after three quarters.

In the final period, Muldrow outscored Central 12-9 to get the victory.

For the game, Kilah Ellingberg scored a game-high 13 points to lead Muldrow, followed by Hardin with nine points, Emma Fields with seven points, Kayla Ellingberg with five points, Gracie Prewett with four points and Jaydin Dean and Tae Williams with two points apiece.

In defeat, Sara Williams and Cambree Bair each scored 11 points to lead Central, followed by Cheyenne Busch with nine points, Paris Campbell with four points and Brianna Taylor and Sadie Huff with two points apiece.

ROLAND 54, STIGLER 22

The Lady Rangers led 14-10 after a quarter, then outscored the Lady Panthers 16-7 in the second period to take a 30-17 halftime advantage. It was all Roland in the second half as the Lady Rangers outscored the Lady Panthers 24-5.

For the game, Ryanne Nelke scored a game-high 24 points to lead Roland, followed by Lillian Cole with 16 points, Molly Carver with eight points and Halle Freeman with six points.

THURSDAY’S GAMES

OPENING ROUND

BOYS

CENTRAL 69, GORE 27

The Tigers got out to a 21-11 lead after the first eight minutes of action en route to a 34-16 halftime advantage. A 17-7 third quarter for the Tigers put them in command at 51-23 after three quarters.

For the game, Braxin Goodson and Noah Buzzard each scored a game-high 19 points to lead Central, followed by Paitton Merrill with eight points, Gavin Randolph with seven points, Brycen Chandler-Eisman with six points, Josh Brunk and Kage Poindexter with four points each and Ryder Justice with two points.

In defeat, Eli Munson led Gore with 11 points, followed by Cain Cooper with eight points, Keeton Rowe with four points and Gabe Hefley and Tate Brooksher with two points apiece.

VIAN 61, STIGLER 37

The Wolverines broke a 14-all tie after a period by outscoring the Panthers 12-2 in the second quarter to take a 26-16 halftime lead, which became a 41-30 advantage after three periods. Vian put away the game with a 20-7 fourth quarter.

For the game, Masyn Wright scored 15 points and Jeremiah Marshall added 14 points to lead Vian, followed by Trace Sanders and Joe O’Neal with nine points each, Dee Antwine with eight points and Ledger Folsom, Isaiah Owens and Trey Antwine with two points apiece.

GIRLS

CENTRAL 38, VIAN 15

Trailing 7-3 after a quarter, the Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Wolverines 13-2 in the second period to take a 16-9 halftime advantage. Central’s 8-1 third quarter gave the Lady Tigers a 24-10 lead going into the final period.

For the game, Brianna Taylor scored a game-high nine points to lead Central, followed by Paris Campbell with eight points, Cheyenne Busch and Cambree Bair with seven points each, Sara Williams with six points and Sadie Huff with a free throw.

In defeat, Olivia Lovell scored five points to lead Vian, followed by Kiah Richardson with four points, Aliyah Tucker with three points, Shelbie Glass with two points and Gracie Buttery with a free throw.

STIGLER 49, GORE 45

The Lady Panthers took a 7-5 lead after the first quarter, which became a 23-16 halftime advantage and a 34-30 lead going into the final period.

In defeat, Emily Daily scored a game-high 16 points and Rayleigh Moore added 12 points to lead Gore, followed by Sophie O’Connor with eight points, River Shoemake with six points and Kennedy Williams with three points.
