Sallisaw Black Diamonds win Maverick Conference Tournament for second time in three years

Several local wrestlers crowned champions, earn medals

FORT GIBSON — For the second time in three seasons, the Sallisaw Black Diamonds are the conference champions.

At the 2026 Maverick Conference Tournament on Saturday, the Black Diamonds won the boys team title with 213.5 points, with Salina a distant second at 195.5 points.

The Black Diamonds placed nine wrestlers, which included four conference champions — Brody Mills, who was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler, at 165 pounds, Bodie Adams at 175, Cash Mayfield at 150 and Morgan Duke at 126.

Alex Reed (157 pounds), Dawson Glover (138) and Mylz Oft (106) were conference runners-up, while Hunter Smith (215 pounds) and Tilden Gates (120) were third.

Two Sallisaw Lady Diamonds wrestlers placed as both Taylor Archuleta (100 pounds) and Kamryn Mayfield (heavyweight) were fourth.

The Gore Pirates were seventh with 79.5 points, and saw three wrestlers place — including a conference champion crowned.

Kaydin McCartney was the champion at 215 pounds, Bladin McCartney was third at 175 and Jaydan Gates was fourth at 165.

The Vian Wolverines were 11th with 42 points, with one placer as Garritt Hunt was third at heavyweight.

The Lady Wolverines had two conference placers as Maddison Turman was the conference champion at 120 pounds and Carmen Rautenberg was third at 130 pounds.

In the junior high portion of the tournament on Friday, the Black Diamonds finished third in the team standings, with seven placers — and three conference champions.

Colton Patterson (80 pounds), Toren Gates (92) and Dylan Lee (195) were conference champions, Kobe Johnson (140) and Hudson Hicks (170) were conference runners-up, Tristen Cross was third at 98 and Garrett Crooks was fourth at 80.

The Lady Diamonds had four wrestlers place in the junior high portion of the tournament on Friday.

Melania Duke was conference runner-up at 117 pounds, Kenzie Moler (89 pounds and Riley Bridges (117) were third and Abbie Glover was fourth at 138.

Gates was not only the conference champion at 170 pounds for the Pirates, he was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler.

Also for Gore, Wyatt Chitty was conference runner-up at 86 pounds, while Beau Moore was fourth at 119.

Vian Lady Wolverines junior high wrestler Joely Hunt was crowned the conference champion at 102 pounds, while teammate Brinlee Wooten was conference runner-up at 110 pounds.

Vian Wolverines JH wrestler Jestin Rosson also was a conference runner-up at 80 pounds.

The Black Diamonds, who had their homecoming and Senior Night dual on Tuesday night, will be idle until the Class 4A Dual State Tournament on Feb. 14 at Tulsa Union High School, The Vian wrestlers, who were slated to entertain Dewar on Tuesday night, will be idle until traveling to wrestle at Stilwell at 6 p.m. Feb. 12.

The Gore wrestlers are slated to have a home triangular with Roland and Heavener at 6 p.m. next Tuesday at Gore Event Center.

All the local junior high wrestlers will compete at the Junior High All-State Tournament this Friday and Saturday in Oklahoma City.
