No fifth down, please

The regular high school season comes to an end tonight after a chaotic fall. Before the season started the normal chain gang for the Black Diamonds had to abandon their post. The chain gang, made up of four people – one at each end holding the 10-yard markers, one holding the down marker at line of scrimmage, and one person placing a clip on the chain showing the exact ball spot – are thankless jobs.

A Few of My Favorite Things

We tend to turn to comfort foods as the days get shorter and the chill permeates the air. You want something that sticks to your bones and warms you from the inside out as you eat it. Having the oven on to heat the house doesn’t hurt either. Something cheesy, something filling, you want something that soothes the soul as it fills your belly.

Celebrating Native Heritage Month

As we enter November—Native American Heritage Month—it’s a good time to take stock of where we now find ourselves in this diffcult year. Even though we are still weathering the global COVID-19 crisis, I believe our tribal nations stand stronger than ever. Celebrating Native Heritage Month means celebrating who we are historically, who we are today, and who we will be in the future.
