Thouvenels celebrate 50th wedding anniversary
The children of Marvin Thouvenel and Kathy (Moore) Thouvenel would like to announce their parent’s 50th wedding anniversary. Marvin and Kathy were married at 4 p.m. on Aug. 4, 1968, in the Gore United Methodist Church. The Rev. Pat Johnson officiated. The couple has been blessed with two children, Bryan Thouvenel and Paige (Thouvenel) Tolbert and her husband, Trent Tolbert. They also have three grandsons, Bryson and Nash Thouvenel and Nicolas Tolbert.
Following the wedding, the couple resided in San Diego, Calif., where Marvin was stationed at Balboa Naval Base and served in the U.S. Navy for four years. Upon completing his tour of duty in Vietnam, the couple returned to Oklahoma to attend Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, where they both received their degrees in education.
Marvin attained his masters in Physical Education/Social Studies and Kathy’s degree was in Home Economics with a minor in Elementary Education. The couple moved quite a bit in their early years, taking them to several towns between Texas and Oklahoma as Marvin’s coaching career advanced to the collegiate level. Kathy enjoyed being a stay at home mom during this time.
The couple and their children eventually called Sallisaw their home in 1982, where Marvin was the High School Basketball Coach/teacher and Kathy taught third grade. Marvin and Kathy are now both retired from education. Marvin retired as a Superintendent/Principal/Coach after 40-plus years in the industry. Kathy retired as a third grade teacher from Sallisaw where the couple still resides today.
Marvin and Kathy enjoy traveling, going to sporting events and spending lots of time with their family, especially the three grandsons. The couple is planning a trip back to San Diego sometime this fall.
