Board accepts resignations
The Sallisaw School Board approved several resignations during their regular meeting Monday including the assistant superintendent Martha Howell, an assistant high school coach, a technology instructor and an elementary teacher.
Superintendent Scott Farmer said some of the positions have been filled but announcements will go out this week to fill the rest.
Howell, who has been employed under the Sallisaw School system for 49 years, is retiring from her position. The board has not filled her position yet, she said. Former technology director Eric Sizemore has been hired as director of the Indian Capital Technology Center in Muskogee and will oversee some of the other centers including those in Stilwell, Tahlequah, Sallisaw and Muskogee, Superintendent Scott Farmer said. The position will be filled by Tyler Mathis. Also resigning was teacher Jennifer Luttmer.
Matthew Hawkins, assistant high school football coach and physical education (P.E.) teacher, also resigned. Dennis Garrett, the transportation director, resigned but was rehired to a part time position.
Farmer, whose last day is June 30, said a special meeting will be held on June 25 to “close out the books” for the 2017-2018 school year. Farmer requested that date to allow all school board members to be present for the meeting.
Any new personnel-related items will also be discussed during that time, Farmer said.
