Snow delays district, regional basketball tournaments
The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association has delayed the Class 2A-6A district basketball tournaments and Class A-B regional basketball tournaments because of the snow and frigid temperatures that enveloped Oklahoma this week.
The Class A and B regional tournaments were scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday at sites around the state. Now, they will start Saturday and continue Monday and Tuesday.
The Class 2A-6A district tournaments were scheduled for Friday and Saturday. They will be held Monday and Tuesday.
How does that affect area teams.
Let's take a look.
The Webbers Falls boys and girls teams won Area II, District 3 championships on Saturday. They will be traveling to Glencoe High School to face Glencoe's boys and girls teams.
The Glencoe girls (12-6) won the District 2 championship. The Webbers Falls Lady Warriors (17-1) beat Glencoe on Dec. 10 68-40. The Lady Warriors will face Glencoe at 6 p.m. Saturday. If they beat Glencoe, the Lady Warriors will face the winner of the Lomega-Coyle game at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Agra High School. If the Lady Warriors lose, the will face the winner of the consolation bracket game between Dover and Mason at 1 p.m. Monday. They would play for the consolation bracket championship at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Agra.
The Glencoe boys team won the District 2 championship on Saturday. Glencoe (14-7) defeated Webbers Falls 83-48 on Dec. 10. The Warriors (10-6) have won six consecutive games.
The teams will square off at 8 p.m. Saturday at Glencoe High School. If the Warriors win, they will play the winner of the Lomega-Wesleyan game a 8 p.m. Tuesday at Agra High School. If the Warriors lose, they will play the winner Dover-Coyle game in the consolation bracket at 3 p.m. Monday at Agra High School. If they won that game, the Warriors would battle for the consolation bracket title at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Agra.
The winner and runner-up in the championship bracket and the winner of the consolation bracket will advance to the area tournament, which is scheduled for Feb. 25-27 at Stroud.
The Gans Lady Grizzlies (3-7) won the Area II, District 7 championship by beating Regent Prep, 49-48, on Saturday. They advanced to the regional's winner bracket and will face Liberty (14-4) at 6 p.m. Saturday at Regent Preparatory School in Tulsa.
The winner will face the winner of the Vanoss-Porum game at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Regent Prep. The loser will face the winner of the Weleetka-Keota game at 1 p.m. Monday at Regent Prep. The winner will advance to the consolation bracket championship at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Regent Prep.
The Gans Grizzlies (6-9) advance the district finals but lost to Regent Prep, 72-30, in the title game. Gans is in the regional consolation bracket. They will face Liberty (11-5) at 3 p.m. Saturday at Regent Prep. The season is over for the loser of the Gans-Liberty contest. The winner will face the loser of the Vanoss-Keota at 8 p.m. Monday at Regent Prep. The winner of that game will play for the consolation title at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Regent Prep.
Classes 2A through 6A will start district play on Monday or Tuesday. The winner and runnerup in the district tournaments will advance to the regionals Feb. 25-27.
The Gore Lady Pirates (8-10) will face Class 2A's No. 2 ranked Howe (18-2) at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Howe High School.
The Gore Pirates (3-15) will face Class 2A's No. 7 ranked Howe (17-3) at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Howe High School.
The regionals will be held Feb. 25-27 at Howe High School.
The Central girls (10-4) are ranked No. 11 in Class 2A. They will face Panama (3-13) at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Panama High School.
The Central Tigers (6-7) will face Class 2A's No. 18 ranked Panama (10-6) at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Panama High School.
The winners and losers of the district tournament advance to the regional tournament Feb. 25-27 at Warner High School.
The Roland boys (11-8), ranked No. 15 in Class 3A, and Roland girls (16-0) ranked No. 1 in Class 3A drew a bye in districts. They will start the playoffs at regionals on Feb. 25 at Antlers High School. The girls will play at 6 p.m. against the winner of the Tishomingo-Antlers district tournament game. The boys will play the winner of the Tishomingo-Antlers district tournament contest at 8 p.m.
Vian will be hosting the Area IV, District 7 district tournament on Monday.
The Vian Lady Wolverines (9-7) will play Spiro (2-12) at 6 p.m. Monday at Vian High School.
The Wolverines (9-7) will face Spiro (11-8) at 8 p.m. Monday.
The Sallisaw Lady Diamonds (8-10) will face Victory Christian School (7-11) at 6 p.m. Monday at Victory Christian School in Tulsa.
The Black Diamonds (9-9) will face Class 2A, No. 4 ranked Victory Christian (14-4) at 8 p.m. Monday at Victory Christian School.
The winner and loser of those games will play in the opening round of regionals at Victory Christian on Feb. 25.
Muldrow will host the Area II, District 2 tournament on Tuesday.
The Lady Bulldogs (14-4) are ranked No. 19 in Class 4A. They will face Checotah (3-10) at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Muldrow defeated Checotah 60-46 on Jan. 29.
The Bulldogs (16-3) are ranked No. 19 in Class 4A. They will face Checotah (2-12) at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Muldrow defeated Checotah 66-31 on Jan. 25 and 54-36 on Jan. 29.
The winners and losers of the district tournament will advance to the regional tournament Feb. 25-27 at Checotah High School.
