Commissioners approve lease

Weather, the Fish Fry and a renewal lease by Strayhorn Landing seemed to be the top items of discussions and/or approval Tuesday at the Sequoyah County Board of Commissioners Meeting.

Steve Rutherford, director of the Sequoyah County Emergency Management, said Sequoyah County was under a tornado watch for most of the day Tuesday. Rutherford said later winds arrived causing some structural damage (see related story).

Ronda Lasiter, director of SAC Nutrition, praised the commissioners and other county employees for making last week's Don Butcher Fish Fry successful.

“Our numbers were down a little. We had about 300 participants who came to enjoy the meal and fellowship but there was senior olympics taking place at the nursing home and it was the start of the Fin and Feather Fall Festival,” Lasiter said.

“I thank the kids from the FFA, Julie Haywood, Vicky and Kelly for preparing the fish. We had so many great comments about it,” Lasiter said.

The commissioners approved a lease renewal submitted by one of the owners of Strayhorn Marina, which is located on county property. Craig Heffington said the marina was purchased in 2006 and was told there was a 100-year lease which went with the property but later learned it was for 50 years and the lease had “run out.”

Motion was made by District 2 Commissioner Steve Carter to approve the lease renewal.

In other business, the commissioners approved a resolution or an annual agreement to authorize the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to enter a contract with EST Inc., on behalf of the county for improvements for roads and bridges funds.

They also approved a lease purchase agreement with Armstrong Bank for a 2018 Caterpillar motor grader for District 3 and a lease purchase agreement between Welch Bank and the county for a truck for the West Tenkiller Fire Department.

Under new business, the commissioners approved claims submitted by District 2 for clean up for Dwight Mission and approved a transfer of funds for the Sequoyah County Sheriff's Office.
