DA will not prosecute deputies over shooting
District Attorney Jack Thorp said Thursday he will not prosecute two Sequoyah County deputies involved in a shooting Jan. 7 that left a Muldrow man wounded.
Deputies Robert Johnson and Thomas Stafford were called to a report of a man walking down 4760 Road carrying a gun. Ultimately, the deputies ended up shooting Matthew Leroy Swaim and learned later that the weapon he was pointing at them was an imitation firearm, a BB gun.
“It is my understanding that Swaim survived his injuries. After a thorough review of the submitted reports, photographs, interviews and body camera videos, I will decline to prosecute Deputy Johnson and Stafford,” Thorp said in a press release.
A more detailed story will appear in the Feb. 19 edition of the Sequoyah County Times.
