Midget tournament underway
The OK Kids Midget State Baseball Tournament got underway Tuesday (July 10) and continues today (Wednesday, July 11) with finals scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, or 8 p.m. if necessary.
Eight teams from across the state are participating in the tournament. They include Dale Pirates, Mooreland Bearcats, Poteau Bandits, Sallisaw Wildcats, Shawnee Scissortails, Stigler Pirates, Tuttle Tigers and Wister Wildcats.
Winners of the first round in the bracket will play games held at 6 and 8 p.m., with winners of those games moving on to 8 p.m. Thursday to determine the winners going into final game play.
Losers of the first round of play will play games at 2 and 4 p.m. Wednesday (today), and those winners move on to 4 and 6 p.m. Thursday to determine the semi-finals players at 6 and 8 p.m. games Friday.
The Sallisaw Youth League is hosting the tournament at the Sallisaw Sports Complex and just completed the OK Kids T-Ball Tournament last weekend where the Stigler Bullets defeated the Sallisaw Cowboys 15-3 in the final.
As part of their tournament participation, each player received a lanyard with the tournament logo that can be used for discounts at local participating restaurants or merchants for discounts.
