Two wounded during shootout
Two, as yet, unnamed men were in the hospital in Fort Smith Tuesday as the Sequoyah County deputies continued an investigation into a double shooting.
Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane said the two men apparently got into an argument on the front porch of a home near Mineral Springs when multiple shots were fired. Each man was struck once during the exchange of gunfire.
The incident happened about 12:30 p.m. and one of the individuals called authorities to say he had been shot in the stomach. The other individual had left the scene in a red Dodge pickup, Lane said.
Following a brief search, Lane said the second individual had called and told authorities where he was and he had been shot once in the upper chest area. Lane said the second individual had wrecked his vehicle at Blue Mouse near Dora.
Lane said the incident is still under investigation and he could not release the names of the individuals involved or provide other details. He said no arrests have been made.
At press time, Lane said his office was waiting on the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation crime scene unit to examine the shooting scene.
