Fast-pitch roundup: Roland, Vian and Gore all win season-openers

The Roland High fast-pitch softball team began their 2018 season on a high note pounding out 18 hits as the host Lady Rangers defeated visiting Stilwell 14-6 on Monday.

Four different Roland players had three hits in the victory.

Haley Nguyen went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, Chloe Offiner went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run, Madison Bailey went 3-for-3 with 3RBIs, two runs and a double and Kylee Barnes went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and scored two runs.

Morgan Reese had a double and three RBIs.

Bailey got the win in the circle throwing five innings allowing eight hits, six runs (four earned), three walks and struck out three.

Roland will visit Sallisaw on Monday in a Class 4A District 8 at 4 p.m.

Vian 5, Salina 4

The Vian High fast-pitch softball team went on the road and won their season opener with a 5-4 victory at Salina.

Leadoff hitter Kaycee Haning went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored, Kacie Gibbons went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run.

Mylie Hughes went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored and Greenlee Wells went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Kadence Wells got the win in the circle throwing seven innings allowing five hits, four runs, a walk and struck out three.

Gore 15, Midway 1

Aubrey Akin went 3-for-3 with a triple, double and four RBIs to lead the way as Gore eased to a 15-1 win at Midway on Tuesday.

Layne Mannon went 2-for-2 with 3RBIs and Karli Springer also went 2-for-2 with an RBI.
