The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association canceled the Class 2A-6A state basketball tournaments and spring high school sports activities Thursday because of the growing COVID-19 public health threat in Oklahoma and the United States.

Gore High School powerlifters Damien Page (157-pound division), James Dover (181) and Alex Hallum (145) recently qualified for the state powerlifting meet after each lifter placed third in the small-school regional at LEA LESSLEY• TIMES Broken Bow. As a team the Pirates finished second in the regional. The state powerlifting meet is scheduled for April 9-10 at El Reno High School.

The Gore High School boys’ basketball team recently received a 2020 Class 2A Distinguished Academic Achievement Award from the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association because of the Pirates’ 3.74 grade point average.
