The Oklahoma State University Cowgirls lost to Texas Wednesday night at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin.

The Central High School cheer squad were the state runner-up in the recent Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association Class 2A Cheerleading State Championships. The Central squad finished with 201.5 points. Hinton’s squad finished with 221.5 points to win the state championship. The Central High cheerleaders are, front row from left, Cove Darden, Madison Hill, Alexis Davis, Whitley Mosby and Katelyn Shupert, middle row from left, Alexis Buckner, Hannah Perceful, Taylor McCain, Jensyn House, Grace Shupert, Bayle Dotson and Alyiah Evans, back row from left, Marlea Stroud, Mary Cole, Autumn Cernicek, Avery Warner, Ann Hart and Madesyn Buzzard. The squad is coached by Ashley Baxter and Betty Demaree. Baxter said the team spent months preparing for the competition. Team tryouts were competitive. The 19-member squad is the largest cheer squad in Central High history. It also was the first time Central High’s cheer squad had been a state qualifier in four years.
“There’s nowhere I’d rather be than southern Kansas chasing ditch chickens,” said Tanner McColl of Piedmont.
